About

  • Jess Wang

Hi, I’m Jess, an internationally-trained stylist who has been cutting hair for over 17 years. Across my career I’ve worked around Australia and served as manager and principal stylist at Melbourne’s iconic Miss Gertrude Salon. But these days, I’m focused on creating a slower and more intimate experience.

In my Fitzroy studio, conveniently located on Gertrude street, you’ll find a quiet welcoming space where you can take your time. Here you won’t meet blaring music or chattering crowds, but rather a relaxed and intimate environment where we can get to know each other.

As a hairdresser, I believe in building relationships that last years. I want to get to know you, your style, tastes, lifestyle and expectations. It matters to me that you love your hair at the end of our appointment. But it also matters that you love your hair when you’re running late for work and have five minutes to get ready.

Together we’ll figure out what you need and work at our own pace to achieve it. With a deep professional background in precision, dry and curl cutting, as well as traditional barbering, I’m confident in a range of styles and approaches.

Building community is at the heart of my work, and I share my space with five other similarly-minded freelance stylists. Meaning we can collaborate to offer an extended range of services, including colour. If you’d like to arrange an appointment with myself and another stylist, just send me an email telling me about your hair and the vision for your next look. From there I can arrange a multi-stylist appointment at a time that suits you.

These values of care and connection extend beyond my work into the brands I support and champion. I choose to use Davines products because I believe they’re the best, and also because the B-Corp certified brand shares my values and puts people and the environment first.

When I’m not cutting, talking and thinking about hair I love to cook, eat, sew, travel and make ceramics. Come in and we can discuss what you need–and maybe what I’m cooking for dinner too.
